5-A-Day Club Message
Wise Counsel

This message was sent to me from a close personal friend after he and his family survived a near disastrous experience. We are so thankful that they did survive and are fine now, however, we can't help thinking how close they came to what otherwise would have been unthinkable.

To all that I care about,

I am writing this note for others to learn from our close call with tragedy. A $50 device made the difference between writing this note and my family being killed last night by carbon monoxide poisoning. We woke near midnight to the detector alarm outside our bedroom door, and within 30 min Kathy, Aaron, Lindsay, and I were in an ambulance breathing oxygen and watching suited men with gas masks find the source of a dangerously high level of toxic gas throughout the house. It turns out the air conditioner vent had an opening in it and exhaust from the water heater was leaking into our air vents. The levels were so high, the Fire Marshall told us if we did not have the detector, we would have all certainly died within the next two hours or so. Acceptable levels end at 35ppm... ours read 330ppm.

Aside from some side effects, we are all fine and happy to have been able to dodge the big bullet. However, we now hear on the Sunday night news that a family of 6 in Long Island were killed last night about the same time as our incident occurred, due to Carbon Monoxide.

Please take the simple step if you have not already, buy a good carbon monoxide detector and never have something like our night last night occur to you or your family. Pass this message on to anyone you can think of that matters to you.

Love Hal, Kathy, Aaron, and Lindsay...
